Milwaukee PrideFest, Writing Race & Belonging with Kundiman in NYC,

June 8, 2013

Pride season is upon us & I’m excited to be performing a set of new work, including the multi-voiced Girl-not, at Milwaukee Pridefest Saturday, June 8, 7-7:45pm in the Milwaukee LGBT Center’s Community Stage.

I’ll be heading to NYC as a Kundiman Fellow Liaison at this year’s Kundiman retreat, where I’ll be live-tweeting with Margaret Rhee, but beforehand, I’ll be participating in a Writing On It All event on Saturday, June 15, 12-3pm at Governor’s Island with other Kundiman & virtual poets from other communities of color.

Kundiman is interested in a creative enactment of tolerance and belonging for immigrant and first generation Asian American poets. What we’d like to create is the sensation that acts of violence and racism figured through new media are absorbed through the more physicalized poems of home and belonging.
